Event Wristbands Buying Guide: Materials, Closures, Numbering and Artwork
Share
A wristband order starts with what staff need to recognise at the event. A souvenir band, a session identifier and a band with a detachable voucher have different requirements. Define that job before choosing a colour or adding a logo.
This guide helps Singapore event teams prepare a wristband specification and compare quotations. Browse GiftMart’s wristbands for the actual options, then confirm the selected product’s dimensions, closure, decoration and order requirements.
1. Separate identification from the event’s admission process
Write down who wears the band, how long they wear it and what it signifies. For example: a workshop group, a meal entitlement, an event keepsake or a staff role. Decide who issues it and how replacements are recorded. A colour or printed code does not by itself provide secure admission control.
If you need a named badge or a credential that holds more information, compare the options in our custom event lanyard buying guide. Some events need both items for different purposes.
2. Compare the exact wristband format
| Format to consider | Questions for the quotation |
|---|---|
| Tyvek-style event band | What are the actual material, width, length, fastening and printable area? Is the closure intended for one fitting or repeated use? |
| Fabric band | How is the artwork applied? Which closure is supplied, how does it adjust, and can it be removed and refitted? |
| Silicone band | What circumference and width are supplied? Compare the available print, embossed or debossed finish on a sample. |
| Band with detachable stub | What information appears on each section? Does the detachable part suit the intended voucher or check-in workflow? |
These are specification questions, not guarantees about every product in a material category. Request evidence for any claimed water resistance, wear duration, skin-contact suitability or tamper resistance on the exact model. Avoid assuming a generic material name confirms those properties.
3. A product example: detachable stubs
Tyvek Wristband with Detachable Stub is a listed GiftMart option for a brief that includes a detachable section. Its product page displays a minimum order of 50 pieces per product at review. Confirm whether your requested colour, printed information, numbering and quantity split can be supplied together; do not assume the overall event headcount meets every variant’s minimum.
4. Check fit and the fastening on a physical sample
Ask for the overall dimensions and usable fastening range, then test the proposed sample with representative wearers. Check edges, adjustment, readability and how the closure is applied. Do not treat an adult size as a universal fit. Tell the supplier if the event includes children or users with particular fitting needs and request an appropriate option.
Agree whether a plain sample confirms only the base product or whether a decorated sample is needed to approve the finished result. Record what has been checked and what remains subject to production approval.
5. Approve colour, artwork and numbering separately
- Supply the logo artwork and the exact wording, date and group names.
- Ask for a proof showing the actual printable area, orientation and position relative to the closure or stub.
- Use words or codes alongside colour when staff must distinguish groups; test readability in the intended setting.
- If numbering is required, specify the first and last numbers, leading zeros, duplicate policy and whether band and stub must match.
- For a QR code or barcode, agree the encoded content and test the proposed printed sample with the equipment you intend to use. Printed codes do not imply an integrated ticketing service.
6. Build quantities by group and day
Illustrative arithmetic only: an event with 240 delegates and 30 staff could request 250 delegate bands and 35 staff bands, giving 285 bands in total. The extra 10 and five are example reserves, not a standard allowance. Keep reserves assigned to the same group and agree who can release them.
For a multi-day event, decide whether one band remains in use or each day needs a separate issue. Confirm quantities and minimums for each colour, size, artwork version and numbered run. Use the event merchandise order checklist to keep sponsor approvals, recipient allocations and packing instructions together.

Frequently asked questions
Can we order different colours for different groups?
Provide the quantity per colour and artwork version. Ask whether minimum quantities and setup charges apply to each split before finalising the group plan.
Can wristbands include individual numbers or QR codes?
Some listed formats include code or numbering options. Send the required specification and request confirmation for the exact product, including proofing and sample testing.
Are all event wristbands waterproof or reusable?
No blanket assumption should be made. Ask for the selected product’s documented properties and closure instructions, and choose around the intended wear conditions.
How early should we place the order?
Share the required arrival date and approval steps at enquiry. The supplier needs to confirm stock, printing, samples, packing and delivery for your actual specification.
For events with competitions or participation awards, use our event medal buying guide to plan award quantities, finishes, ribbons and proofs separately from wristband allocations.
